FRESH ERA FOR THE START-UP BUSINESS CLUB

There are growing expectations that the post-pandemic world will drive a boom in entrepreneurship and new business launches.

Official figures released by Companies House revealed more than 460,000 new start-ups were registered in the UK last year, a figure expected to continue to rise over the coming months.

The Black Country Chamber’s Start-Up Business Club, sponsored by leading legal firm Higgs & Sons, is set to play an increasingly influential role in the economic development of the region over the coming months and years.

To mark the acceleration of fledgeling businesses, a new programme of activity developed with Higgs for the Start-Up Business Club will begin in June, kick-started by a legal advice ‘clinic’ aimed to demystify key business and commercial challenges.

It will be designed to provide initial and ongoing business support through the early years of the lifecycle of a business in the shape of seminars, masterclasses and networking opportunities tailored specifically for start-ups – whatever the sector.

Paul Hunt, the Higgs & Sons partner overseeing the firm’s Start-Up Business Club activity, told Prosper, “Despite the many difficulties of the last 12 months, it is hugely encouraging to see a sizeable increase in the number of people starting out on new business ventures, both in terms of the wider UK and the Black Country specifically.

“Higgs & Sons has a long and proud tradition of supporting organisations taking their first steps in a new business.

“We have developed long-term relationships with many businesses from start-up through to sale and we are thrilled to be playing our part in helping the next generation of entrepreneurs.

“We have a dedicated team working on the programme alongside Alison Trinder, the Chamber’s dedicated start-up expert, and developing a framework which will provide crucial information for new businesses to form a solid and sustainable future.

“The Higgs team will provide an important legal overview, whether that be with regard to property, company constitution, employment, dispute resolution or a variety of other topics.

“We will also be working with specialist partners to provide expertise in other key disciplines such as finance, planning and marketing.”

While events will be virtual for now, there remains the hope of resuming face-to-face events before the year is out.

Paul added,  “While the main aim of the Start-Up Business Club is to provide the appropriate level of business support through what can be testing early months and beyond and to provide a business with the very best chance of long-term success, it is also a fantastic networking opportunity for new business owners, not only with like-minded individuals but also the wider Black Country Chamber of Commerce network.”
