TAKING CARE OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR BUSINESSES FROM TURKEY
Murat Yildirim is the Midlands Engine Regional Overseas Specialist for Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing for Department for International Trade based in Istanbul, Turkey.
His role has been created as part of the UK Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ agenda, to help increase trade and investment support for key UK regions.
DIT Eastern Europe and Central Asia Network (EECAN) is one of the nine DIT overseas regions and is led by HM Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for Eastern Europe and the Central Asian region (EECAN) based in Istanbul.
EECAN consists of 14 markets, which include Turkey, Russia, the countries of the former Soviet Union (excluding the Baltics), and Mongolia where in total around 380 million people live.
Murat told Prosper, “I am quite new to the role, just 2 months in, and I am primarily responsible for helping Midlands Engine companies to win business in the sector. I work closely with the DIT Midlands Trade relevant DIT sector teams (both in London and here the EECAN region) and local regional trade partners.”
The recent worldwide events and the Covid-19 pandemic have highlighted the need for widespread transformation planning for a fundamental shift in industrial production and accelerated digital transformation and the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies with an impact on the industries and companies relying more on Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, Internet of Things (IoT), automation, robotics and more.
“Post pandemic, Turkey aims to accelerate its efforts to strengthen the Turkish industry’s digital transformation process by adopting Industry 4.0,” said Murat, “manufacturers in Turkey are planning to incorporate advanced digital technologies in manufacturing processes in the coming years.
“With the UK's 100,000+ advanced manufacturing companies and new innovations in digital technologies, the UK is ready to support Turkey with its efforts in this field. Therefore, I am working to bring opportunities to UK companies for highly innovative technology companies in key fields such as manufacturing, transport, chemicals, defence, space, communications, security, energy and healthcare.
“I am incredibly passionate about my job, the challenges and rewards, it allows me contact with well-established high-level contacts in Turkey and the UK and sophisticated knowledge of the opportunities for Midlands Engine companies in trading with this market.
