The Platinum Group | Sharing Best Practice Forum
VAT after EU transition, what your business needs to know

Black Country Chamber of Commerce is working with members of The Platinum Groups to offer an extensive programme of best practice and business support activities. Designed for senior directors, managers and team leaders, these informative meetings are designed to help share best practice and develop valuable skills which will make a difference across a broad spectrum of business operations.

The Government has stated it regards it as inevitable that goods moving between the UK and the EU will be liable to border checks, after the end of the transitional period. This Sharing Best Practice Forum will explore the implications for UK businesses with information on Customs & VAT procedures and specific actions which businesses can take now to prepare.

The speakers for the meeting are Glyn Edwards and Andrew Thurston from MHA MacIntyre Hudson LLP.

Glyn is VAT director with MHA MacIntyre Hudson in Birmingham and advises businesses on all aspects of VAT including representing them in negotiations and disputes with HMRC.

Andrew is the Customs Duty Consultant for MHA MacIntyre Hudson, joining them from HMRC where he gained valuable experience liaising with all sizes and sectors of companies within the UK - by facilitating customs procedures and assessing compliance.

This meeting is relevant to all businesses who export goods or services to the EU (and beyond).

Mental health effects of organisations returning to work

Returning to the office may pose challenges for some employees, who may face practical difficulties, for example around caring responsibilities and commuting (with many schools breakfast clubs remaining closed to children outside of key workers, and for those that are open having very limited provision). This poses stress and worry about work.

Other employees may be worrying, anticipating the potential exposure to the virus, after perhaps understanding that 'staying safe' meant 'staying home'.

Some may also feel anxious about increased social contact involved in sharing a workplace with others and interacting with customers and clients.

Whilst there are clear advantages to social interaction for mental wellbeing, and it is also an important part of businesses and the economy getting back on their feet, it may seem daunting for some.

Kerry Mitchell the Wellbeing Manager from Paycare, a Chamber Patron, will open up the conversation towards steps employers can take to assist wellbeing of staff and the mental Health effects of organisations returning to work, she will unpack the following:

  • Returning to work after a period of furlough – practical approaches to support staff

  • Considerations towards mental health as part of your health and safety risk

Facebook Advertising

Facebook is a hugely significant social network. Their advertising platform is complex but incredibly powerful if leveraged in the right way. With billions of dollars spent on Facebook ads each year, the platform has established itself as an invaluable tool for businesses looking to engage with very precise and defined audiences.

There are many facets of successful advert targeting including the content used in the ads, the audience targeted and the type of advert. The platform is also used to advertise on Instagram, Messenger and third-party websites, meaning it can be an excellent source of leads for businesses, especially B2C and e-commerce. This half day course is designed to help businesses get the most out of these paid platforms, and allow them to demonstrate an effective return on investment.

Who is it for?
This course is designed for marketing managers and those with a responsibility to manage paid content campaigns. It is ideal for those who have boosted some content in the past but did not feel they got the most out of the platform and what is possible. It is also suitable for those with no experience in paid advertising on social media but are confident with other Facebook business tools.

This Facebook ads course includes:

  • Facebook basics and marketing theory

  • Defining audiences based on demographics, behaviours and activity

  • The ads manager structure, how to create effective campaigns

  • Monitoring and tweaking methodology for maximum ROI

  • Effective multi-level campaign planning and execution

  • Reviewing data and informing broader marketing strategies and approaches

Sales Training for SME's

Are you in a small to medium sized business working within a sales role? Would you like to become more confident, polished and professional in your sales approach?

This workshop is designed specifically for smaller sized businesses, where looking after sales may be just one of the many disciplines you are responsible for.

In this workshop we look at the role of the ‘human salesperson’.
We focus on how you can enhance your existing skills whilst honing them with elements of established best practice; allowing you to sell in a ‘non-sales’ way.

We take a look at the sales psychology of the seller, and the buyer, and we question your listening skills, value selling, how to handle objections and your all-important closing skills.

The sales industry across the UK can sometimes create a negative image.

It can often deter people from the most essential role in any organisation and sometimes hinder driving sales forward.

Our training is delivered in a relaxed and enjoyable environment and with no uncomfortable role play.
